WEEK FOUR: February 5, 2001 - February 11, 2001

This was a good learning week. It started with tea, it always starts with tea. I drink coffee and hot chocolate, by the way, a mixture of the two, not separate, and I got this festive cup from the grocery store... it is hilarious. But back to what I was starting... I learned a lot this week: 1) Ants rule the world, B) SuperMongo can move mountains, and lastly, two advisors means twice the work!

The week featured my other advisor, Romano Corradi, from the Canary Islands in Spain. He brought his knowledge of the Solf Formula SuperMongo macro to Hugo Schwarz and I. We are using it to fit the PN I am working on. He also showed me how to correctly extract the spectra from the object and some other wonderful stuff that was boggling my mind. Unfortunately he is only here for this week. Before he left he showed me 50 tricks with SuperMongo!

On Tuesday the computer lab was shut down at 5:30PM in order to fumagate it! The ants... I tell you, they rule the world. So I couldn't work into the night as I normally do, so I went for a walk. I tried to take this 35 minute walk to the beach that Arlin Crotts told me about. I took the wrong path and was almost mauled by three dogs...

Wednesday featured a Seminar by Stephanie Wachter on Binary Stars. I really enjoyed this seminar. The topic is always intriguing. There is so much left open and unanswered in the field. The end of the talk turned into a discussion of these mysteries. It was a good mind exercise...

Friday wound down with a progress meeting, Kathy brought some plots and we discussed them with Don. I was excited about my new direction in my project and I shared that with the group. I don't remember the weekend much... I think I remember someone saying that when you don't remember the weekend, it's a good one? Whatever.
