Discovered in 1536,
la ciudad de Valparaiso is the main seaport of Chile. Buildings and
houses are built on varying gradients of steep hills, somewhat impossible
(plain difficult) to hike. Acscensores, or funiculars, solve this problem.
A bit like railroad cars on stilts, they are the primary mode of climbing
the hills...A car load of people are locked into the lift and pulled up
the hill (A bit rickety , but scenic nonetheless--
they might
date back to 1536, too). |
