"Red Giants and Mass Loss in Globular Clusters"

Optical and infrared spectroscopy reveal the dynamics of winds in globular cluster stars and field surrogates - metal-poor field giants. Semi-empirical atmospheric models give new mass loss relations indicating a dependence on metallicity. Detection of fast winds can lead to evolutionary effects in these luminous stars, and offer an explanation for the missing material in globular clusters.
