"Mid-IR Adaptive Optics
with the MMT Adaptive Secondary" |
|
Adaptive optics systems are not ordinarily used in the mid-infrared due to the high thermal background introduced by the many warm optical surfaces of typical adaptive optics systems. The 6.5 meter MMT's unique adaptive optics system only has three warm optical surfaces, which allows it to work in the mid-infrared. I will present a brief overview of the MMTAO system and its associated instrumentation. I will also present some recent science highlights, ranging from the direct detection of exoplanets at L-band, to spatially resolved silicate spectroscopy of young binaries at N-band. |
