"A Vision for the
Compact-Aperture Telescope System" |
|
I present a framework for organizing operations and hardware of compact-aperature telescopes, a concept that includes and extends the current small and medium aperture OIR system. The framework ties together several current initiatives and projects, such as SMARTS, RSTARS and NOAO data archiving, and indicates directions for powerful (and economical) improvement. I will illustrate aspects of the vision with my own research in very faint galaxies, nearby early-type galaxies, cataclysmic variables and distance indicators. |
