"High Redshift Clusters from the RCS Survey"

Galaxy clusters provide valuable constraints on the structure of both the dark matter and baryonic components of universe, and on cosmological parameters.  Clusters at z > 1 provide particularly strong constraints on the cosmic evolution of both galaxies and large scale structure; however, only a handful of clusters have been discovered at z > 1, due to the technical challenges of detecting such distant and faint systems.  The RCS surveys are wide-field optical surveys for clusters to z=1, based on over-densities of galaxies along the well-defined red sequence of galaxy colors. I will review the RCS cluster finding techniques and our first survey results, including cluster X-ray properties and the evolution of cluster galaxies.
