"Giant Exo-planets around White Dwarfs?"

We describe our HST/NICMOS imaging search of giant planets around white dwarfs, especially in the 625 Myr old Hyades cluster.

Searches around nearby field white dwarfs with VLT/NACO and with Spitzer will also be described. No definite positive result has emerged so far (limiting mass 5 M_Jup at 0.5 arcsec), but white dwarfs remain very promising targets to find the first self-luminous, resolved gas planet around any star. It is reassuring that radial velocity data have revealed cases of gas giant planets around red giant stars, the progenitors of white dwarfs.
