"Next Generations Surveys:
Planning, Algorithms and Visualization" |
|
Wide field synoptic surveys and their spectroscopic follow up will revolutionize how we think about data analysis and visualization. Even though some of these surveys will not see first light for several years, planning and algorithm development undertaken now will impact the utility of the science products. In this talk I will touch on measures that we can take now to ensure that the LSST provides excellent data not only for the primary science drivers, but also for ancillary science results. I will also talk about a specific application of algorithm development for large spectroscopic surveys and application to finding type Ia supernovae in the SDSS. Finally, I will discuss recent advancements in all sky data visualization and the applicability of these tools to professional astronomers.. |
