"Star Formation in the
Bullet Cluster" |
|
The Bullet Cluster is a supersonic galaxy cluster merger at z=0.296. During this talk, I will discuss the star formation properties of the Bullet Cluster galaxies in the context of the supersonic merger environment prevalent in the central region, as well as in the global environment of a massive galaxy cluster. I will present specific star formation rates of Bullet Cluster candidate and spectroscopically confirmed galaxies derived from 24 micron Spitzer/MIPS and Magellan BVR photometry. The spatial distribution of possible star-bursting galaxies are presented, as well as the distribution of E+A (post-starburst) galaxies and AGN candidates. I will also show the infrared luminosity function of the Bullet Cluster and compare it to results from other cluster and group studies. |
