"Gemini+NIFS Spectral Imaging of YSO Environments"

I will present and discuss the results of our integral field spectroscopic studies at adaptive optics spatial resolution (<0."1) of young stars obtained using NIFS at the Gemini North observatory.   Transitions of molecular hydrogen and forbidden [Fe II] detected in the infrared are of particular interest in the study of circumstellar disks and microjets in young stellar objects.  Spatial resolution of emission line structures allows for the study of gas morphologies, the spectral resolution of NIFS permits characterization of outflow gas kinematics, and the detection of multiple transitions of H2 and [Fe II] in the IFU data make it possible to construct spatially resolved maps of physical properties of the emitting gas.  This study highlights the sensitivity of adaptive optics fed integral field spectroscopy for revealing previously unknown characteristics of disks and outflows in the inner 200 AU environments of bright T Tauri stars.
