Mountain Operations Manager/Engineer

CTIO seeks a manager/engineer with 5 years of experience in industrial, buildings and mechanical maintenance and facilities administration. Candidates should hold a university degree in civil, construction. mechanical or related engineering disciplines.  The successful candidate will manage the Mountain Facilities Operations, develop and execute maintenance programs, ensure quality standards for the provision of general services, and assist in the development of new projects.  Fluency in English and Spanish both written and spoken is required. 

CTIO manages the infrastructure for the AURA Observatory in Chile, which supports the operations of more than twenty telescopes on Cerro Tololo and Cerro Pachon, including the Blanco 4m, Gemini-South 8m, SOAR 4.1m.  Infrastructure operations include maintenance of roads on the site (more than 40km), operations of mountaintop facilities including two casinos and five lodges, operations of one residential compound and office complex, and maintenance of utility systems providing electricity, water, and communication to all of the above.  For more details visit: www.ctio.noao.edu.  

The successful candidate should have a background in on-site management of an extensive operations group, including developing annual operations plans and budgets as well as developing proposals for major maintenance or upgrades to the existing infrastructure.  The candidate should also possess good communications and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
