Safety & Environmental Engineer

We are looking for a professional with a University degree Safety and Environmental Engineering or with engineering degree with experience in Safety and Environmental management to work at the Observatory as the Deputy Safety Engineer for NOAO/CTIO.

Qualified candidates must have three to five years of experience in a safety related position. The successful candidate will lead the development of the NOAO South/Cerro Tololo safety program, and will administer, manage, and audit the program with oversight from the Chief NOAO Safety and Risk Manager (who is based in the USA).  In this role, he/she will provide training, and ensure appropriate implementation of activities to comply with safety, health and environmental laws and regulations.  He/she will also conduct safety inspections and accident investigations, and oversee job hazard analyses and worker’s compensation issues in collaboration with the AURA Safety Engineer. 

Candidates must have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; the ability to create and deliver effective training, and effectively interact with all organization levels within NOAO and AURA.   Proficiency in English and Spanish both written and spoken is required as there is an need to translate Normas, OHSA Standards, procedures and other documents in both Spanish and English.
