and measurement of light pollution, along with a brief account of various research
projects in progress.

Highlights include:
    Work of the Istituto di Scienza e Tecnologia dell'Inquinamento Luminoso (ISTIL,
Light Pollution Science and Technology Institute).
    Organization of the conference "Light Pollution and the Protection of the Night
Environment" held at Venice in May 2002.  Proceedings in pdf format can be

    Description of a portable Wide-Angle Sky Brightness Automatic Mapper
(WASBAM) and its Small Spectoscopic Head (SSH).
    Studies of the Sources of Light Pollution including development, results and use
of "Roadpollution" software.  These include comments about the advantages
of flat-glass, full cut-off luminaires and the need to control light to avoid spillage
perpendicular to the direction of the roadway.
    A status report on the Second World Atlas Project.
    Collaboration with IDA and astronomical observatories.
    Preparation of a laboratory for photometry and radiometry of light pollution
    etc.
