Guard Services within the La Serena Compound are provided by Grupo Eulen Chile S.A.  Guard services are contracted for a period of three years, and Eulen started their current three year contract on October 1, 2011.  The Security Services contract is competitively bid by AURA Procurement. 

Guard Services include three shifts per day of three guards, twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.  The guard facilities include two guardposts, one located at the Avenida Juan Cisternas gate, and one at the Alberto Arenas Gate.  During periods of University strikes or other events that cause the closure of the Alberto Arenas Gate, a third exit is utilized, called La Puerta Falsa, which is located at the end of the road above the residential sector 'La Isla'.  The Cisternas and Alberto Arenas guard posts are manned continuoulsy, as the Alberto Arenas gate is also the central control for communication with Cerros Tololo and Pachon, as well as the location of water level alarms for the Recinto water supply system.  The third guard on duty is available to perform rounds on foot throughout the Recinto.  During those periods when the Puerta Falsa is being utilized, the third guard is stationed to control this entrance during the hours of 7:00am until 7:00pm.

To two fixed guard posts may be contacted by telephone at any time of day or night.  The Avenida Juan Cisternas Gate telephone 205 282, and the Alberto Arenas Gate telephone annex is 205 351.  Both number may be dialed from outside lines or from a cellular telephone.   

Residents are advised to inform the guards in advance of receiving visitors.  Informing the guards of expected visitors will ensure that they are not detained at the gate. 

Residents may also advise the guards of any emergency situations at any time.  The guards are informed of the proper people to contact for facility emergencies, and can help coordinate emergency services such as ambulance, fire department, or Carabineros.  These services may be dialed directly from residents home phones by dialing 9 for an outside line, and then 131 for ambulance, 132 for the fire department, and 133 for the Carabineros de Chile.
