I have heard that this e-mail address was a good location to get in contact
with people who have experience operating CCD's under a variety of
conditions. Currently we are experiencing problems with our flexprint
circuits (vias fail during thermal cycling) and would like to put out a
call for help. If there is an official way to submit questions, please let
me know.
I would like to get some suggestions for vendors to fabricate 5 layer
"flexprint" circuits for use in the temperature range from -150 deg C to +
60 deg C. These would be used for reading out large CCD's operating at
-120 deg C. This is for a spaced-based application that would require low
levels of outgassing and approximately 200 thermal cycles (with margin)
over its lifetime. All of the vendors that we have contacted so far
promise success but do not have any customers that go below -60 deg C.
I have heard that flexprints are commonly used down at cryo temperatures
but have not been able to find out fabrication specifics such as how many
layers, materials used, via construction, attachment to substrates, etc.
Thanks you very much for any assistance provided.
Sincerely
Al Pillsbury
