ESO CCD Workshop

Dear CCD aficionados,

    I write to inform you some more about the ESO CCD workshop which takes
place during October 8-10, 1996.  We have had an excellent response and
nearly every "leading light" of our community will be able to attend.  There
are a few that I am still tracking down (perhaps you know who you are), but
I think the workshop already shows excellent promise.  We have been able
to accept all people that wish to come, which includes the following
representations:

        28 Observatories
        10 CCD manufacturers and camera system companies
         7 Universities and Institutes

We have reserved enough hotel rooms in the local town of Garching for all
attendees.  These hotel rooms are reserved from Friday, 4 October through
Friday, 11 October so that anyone who desires can come early to enjoy the
last days of Oktoberfest (ends 6 October).

    We plan a full schedule of varied formats, including formal
presentations, roundtables, poster sessions, receptions and cultural
activities.  We have been looking for a very interesting, unique dinner
speaker; if you have ideas, please make a suggestion.  We will make plans
for activities for spouses and families if that is desired.

    During the next month, we will make the schedule more concrete.  However,
we do know that we will start with an informal reception at my home the
evening before the workshop, so please plan to arrive by the afternoon
of 7 October.

    I just wanted to post you that all plans are still on schedule and that
it will take about one more month to get the program out to you, at which
time you can start making hotel reservations.  If it affects your airline
travel, you can confidently make airline bookings, if you have received
an acknowledgement from us that your E-mail attendance request was received.
