Hi all
we used zif sockets for all our early EEV and Tek 1k CCDs
without any apparent trouble. You will however, remember the fiasco
we had when we started using the Lorals, WITHOUT ZIF sockets I
might add, but the CCDs sson became contaminated with what I
ultimately decided was water vapour. This was eventually
remove by BAKING the whole of the Cryo, including CCD at
80-90C, for several hours whilst pumping, back flushing thru
pump etc. I can well imagine that if I had looked further at
our earlier, devices - particularly the Tek thinned (the EEV
devices at that stage were un-thinned) then I am sure I would
have seen similar problems. The Teks never responded in the same
way the Lorals did though - i.e. The Lorals LOST their flooded
QE straight away when contaminated. The Teks were always stable.
I would go with the view of having as little foreign(i.e.
plastic/biscuits/jam sandwiches) material in the vacuum environment
as possible....

Cheers
Paddy
