We have by now installed two Kodak KAF-4201 CCDs in astronomical
cameras.
In most respects they behave nicely, but they appear to a problem with
vertical
CTE and low level linearity.
------
We have been using two KF 4200 (2K x 2K) CCD and a KF16800 (4Kx 4K) CCD
systems for some time for astronomical imaging (e.g. in cluster
photometry A&A S [1996] 119, 221 , in speckle imaging AJ [1997] 114,
2117 & AJ [1999] 117, 548 and in hyperspectral imaging of clusters
[1999] PASP 111, 759 ) with good results.
A few years ago we received a KF 4200 with some of the same problems you
have reported on in CCD world. Our results are to be found in Optical
Engineering [1995] 34, 43 . We eventually tested a number of these
arrays and found some had the poor CTE and low light non-linearity,
while others did not. Tom Lee at Kodak traced this problem to a
manufacturing problem on specific wafer runs at Kodak. From your e-mail
I suggest that you may received some less than excellent examples of
these devices that arise from a similar problem. Its probably worth
contacting the appropriate technical people at Kodak with your concern.
