Dear CCD freaks !
At ESO we did not use a lot thinned scientific MPP devices because they
have a field free region which compromizes the optical resolution (It
was measured using a mid-resolution spectrograph).
It is clear that MPP mode helps to reduce the general dark current
level.
Driven by research about column and individual pixel defects, we would
like to ask peoples experience about the behaviour of this defect when
enabling/disabling this MPP mode.
Please, report only results where SAME scientific CCD device with MPP
implant has been used in MPP versus non MPP mode. In case of non MPP
mode, of course, the clock voltage of the implant phase should be set
such, as to account for the additionnal barrier of the implant. Also
indicate the device type.
Thanks !
