The Phyics Department of the University of California at Berkeley is
seeking a visiting postdoctoral fellow with a strong instrumentation
background to participate in the development of CCD's and CCD cameras for
our astrophysics projects. The instrumentation developments will be
closely associated with our ongoing observational Supernova Cosmology
Project led by Dr. Saul Perlmutter. The goal of the project is to measure
the cosmological parameters using high-redshift supernovae that are found
and studied in a systematic search at large optical telescopes. The
candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the data analysis
and reduction with this project while developing state-of-the-art
instruments. The research group is associated with the LBNL MicroSystems
Laboratory where state-of-the-art CCD's are fabricated, with the Institute
for Nuclear and Particle Astrophysics (INPA) at Berkeley Lab and the
Center for Particle Astrophysics (CfPA) at the University of Califomia,
Berkeley. It actively participates in collaborative research and seminars
with the other investigators working on similar or related scientific
problems. This is a 3-year position contingent of continuation of funding.
Salary will be $43,000 per year. Applicants should send a resume,
publications list, three letters of recommendation, and a brief statement
of research interests and details of experience/skills to Carol Dudley,
Physics Department, 366 Le Conte Hall, Berkeley, CA 94720-7300.
Application materials must be postmarked by October 15, 1999. The
University of California is an affimmative action/equal opportunity
employer.
