Announcements: SAM F-P & Workshop on SOAR Science 2020

NEW!! SAM F-P Early Science Call

We have scheduled another block of time with SAM plus Fabry-Perot for 4 nights (March 31 - April 3). Again, this will be supported by the SAM F-P team. Please see last year's call (here) for details on capabilities, contact information and conditions for participation. The final version of the 30 Doradus SAM F-P paper is here. If you were involved in last year's call, and want to be involved again, please re-submit; proposals are not automatically carried over. The deadline for submission is revised one week to February 28; this allows time for the SAM F-P team to iterate with proposers.

SOAR 2020 Science Workshop - 13 - 15 March 2017

Rio de Janeiro, Brasil - Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Fisicas
USA - University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

The Southern Astrophysical Research (SOAR) Telescope is a 4.1 meter aperture telescope funded by a partnership between the U.S. National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO), The Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia, Inovações e Comunicações do Brasil (MCTIC / LNA), Michigan State University (MSU) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC).

After 10 years of continuing science operations with the SOAR telescope, it’s time to plan the next decade of operations and what science YOU the users want to accomplish with SOAR. The key results gathered from observations with SOAR will be highlighted, and we will outline promising science programs for the future.

The workshop/symposium includes two full days of science followed by sessions on current and future instrumentation. Users will be encouraged to share their experience and desires for the future.

In order to maximize participation across the SOAR partnership, the Symposium will take place at two locations (USA and Brazil) linked by broadband teleconference facilities. There will be a number of invited speakers, together with ample time for contributed (oral) papers, posters, and discussion.
The most current information can be found on the workshop website at:
Please use this site to register for either workshop location! We expect the registration page(s) to become available shortly. We will also post announcements here on the SOAR home page from time to time, but please use the LNA page for the most up-to-date information.

We hope you will reserve March 13, 14 and 15 and plan to attend.
