  • SOAR Adaptive Module (SAM) Closes the Loop

      SAM closes the loop The loop was closed on the laser guide star on April 15. Next night, the improvement of the image quality in closed-loop was documented by images of bright stars. Side-by-side comparison of PSFs in the green and red are shown in the image, with FWHM indicated .  

  • SOAR Adaptive Module (SAM) UV LASER Launch

    SAM UV Laser launch inside the SOAR dome for the first time on January 28, 2011, at 00:30am.  The laser is pointed at a piece of paper attached to the dome, to produce the fluorescent violet light, that is lighting the dome.  This is another important step forward in getting the SAM LGS system online.  

  • SAM Commissioning

      The SOAR Adaptive Module (SAM) is installed at the telescope. During four commissioning nights (Nov 20-23), rich technical data and demo images were collected. So far we use natural guide stars to close the AO loop and to prepare the instrument for operation with the UV laser.
