This is unlikely to work at all unless you are running an X11 compatible windowing system (including OpenWindows) that implements the xterm application or something very similar. You also need to be able to run program ssh (secure replacement for rsh) to make this connection.
The program ECHMAP draws a map of how the orders from the 4m echelle spectrograph will fit onto the CCD detector. It allows you to interactively experiment with different grating tilts, gratings, cameras, etc. so that you can determine the best setup for your project.
Due to our efforts to improve computer system security here at CTIO, you'll need to use a secure login, ssh, to access the echmap program. If you have questions about ssh, see our CTIO Computer Security page.
NOTICE: The solution to the problems we were having with echmap running from GNOME/linux machines seems to be working. Let us know of any anomalies that show up...

Note that the wavelength file and redshift are not implemented for remote connections (sorry!), so the responses "none" and "0" are required as shown above.
The graph should look something like this (click for larger view)...
x = change cross disperser (and order).
c = change camera.
p = change port.
d = change detector size, pixel size (e.g., for binning)
w = move to new central wavelengths which you will be asked to enter.
m,m = move to new central wavelengths by moving the CCD from the position marked with the first m to the position marked with the second m.
q = quit program.
space = mark cursor position with *, print out x and y coords.
? or h = print out help menu.
