I'm the guy on the right (no beard, yellow sweater) in the photo
above,
taken in 1999 with Steve Heathcote during Steve's first trip up to
Cerro
Pachon after being appointed Director of SOAR. I'm an astronomer
living in La Serena, Chile working at the Cerro
Tololo Inter-American Observatory .
Research Interests
Links
- Biographical Information
and list of publications.
- Preserving
dark skies. This link takes you to the English-language,
Cerro Tololo, web page
on this subject (which I maintain). It provides a summary of
activities that we
have been carrying out here in Chile and elsewhere for over a decade,
along with
useful links to other, related activities and
resources.
- IAU Commission 50
"Protection of Existing and Potential Astronomical Sites". This
activity includes protection against light pollution, RFI (e.g. ALMA,
SKA) and space-based interference with ground-based studies (e.g. from
reflected sunlight from space debris and space-based advertising).
This is the second web site that I maintain (as a former
IAU Commission 50 President, former IAU Working-Group Chair for
"Controlling Light
Pollution" and current member of the Organizing Committee for
Commission 50 - as well as President of IAU
Division XII).
- IAU working group on
"Controlling Light Pollution". This has been set up by
Commission 50. I also maintain this (third)
website.
- Giant Humming Bird -
photos from our garden and that of a friend - of the world's largest
humming bird (copyright Malcolm Smith) in flight, one arriving at its nest , on its nest and considering
leaving its nest .
