SN 1999ac

 

SN 1999ac was a Type Ia that went off in the periphery of the spiral galaxy NGC 6063. It was discovered by the KAIT team more than two weeks before maximum.

Finding chart for SN1999ac. This is a V image taken on the CTIO 0.9m telescope on 2 March 2000. It is the combination of three 60s images.

Color image of SN1999ac. This is a true color image created by averaging 3 frames in each BVI color taken over the nights of 1-3 March 1999 with the CTIO 0.9m telescope and facility CCD. Because the SN was caught so early, it is particularly blue. Note the presence of many red stars in this field. The field is roughly 7arcminutes on a side.
